Prosecutors: Authorities should give defense evidence
Posted on October 31, 2003

The Associated Press

BATON ROUGE - Prosecutors of South Louisiana serial killer suspect Derrick Todd Lee have told law enforcement agencies to give defense attorneys access to evidence in the case against the St. Francisville man.

Agencies in East Baton Rouge, St. Martin and Lafayette parishes were told to make all evidence, except for DNA evidence, available to the defense, according to a notice filed in state district court Wednesday.

The East Baton Rouge district attorney's office is establishing procedures for Lee's attorneys and experts to transport and test the DNA, the notice says.

Lee, 34, was arrested in May in connection with the deaths of six South Louisiana women between 2001 and 2003. He has been linked to the killings by DNA evidence found at the crime scenes, authorities have said.

Lee faces trial March 1 in the May 2002 slaying of Charlotte Murray Pace of Baton Rouge. Prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty.
